A WORLD OF MEMORIES

Empowering life and community - Backwaters - Official Site

Their day starts at the crack of dawn. Waking up before even the sun, they make their way to the hotel ready to face the day. Lighting up the stove, a kettle of water is kept to boil as they busy themselves with preparations for the day’s menu.

The kettle whistles, and water is poured to brew the tea and coffee. Today’s menu is a classic English breakfast, a special lunch spread, and fusion veggie stuffed rotti for dinner.

Prepping continues with cleaning the meat and veggies. An early start on preparing a Rhubarb sorbet gives it enough time to freeze for lunch. With the Rhubarb sorbet setting in the fridge, they get to work on preparing breakfast and a simple butter cake for tea.

Work for the breakfast begins, a handful of sausages are pan-fried until crisp around the edges and plated up on a bed of fresh lettuce. A pineapple is cleaned and diced, put into the blender with some water and blended until liquid gold. Sliced bread is popped into the toaster until warm and crusty.

Tea and coffee is poured and eggs are prepped for a perfect double egg sunny side up or a fluffy omelette as the guests trail into the dining room.

Hungry guests wake up from a restful slumber ready for a hearty breakfast. The sights and smells that greet the sleepy guests awaken the sense.

This is how the day starts for the women at The Backwaters.

Women are an integral part of The Backwaters culture. Making every effort to empower them, 70% of The Backwaters staff are women. The Backwaters takes responsibility in creating job opportunities for women who had no prior professional training.

From the ladies who cook up a feast for every meal to the ladies who handle the room service, these women are full of smiles when you meet them. Young and old, these shy women are the force behind what makes The Backwaters what it is today.

The local community is the cornerstone of The Backwaters. From the full-time staff to the safari driver, all activities that the hotel offers are all in partnership with local businesses, supporting the community in any way possible. Completely integrating the local village community into the day-to-day functions, The Backwaters helps the community grow and develop all the while creating a sustainable way to live in harmony with nature.
